Big love to everyone! Thank you for exploring the wisdom of the stars with me and for sharing your views and perspectives. This important New Moon in Virgo occurs on August 23 at 2:07 am ET. It is the first of two consecutive Virgo New Moons, setting up the upcoming eclipse cycle. The Sun and Moon align in the very first degree of Virgo, representing pure, raw potential — the birthing of new possibilities with a sense of urgency. And yet, Virgo season is also about deep embodiment.
I recently visited a local Farmers’ Market — such a beautiful image of Virgo’s magic. It was wonderful to see, touch, feel, smell, and taste all the fresh abundance, and to mingle with people. I love noticing the marvelous synchronicities between the cycles of the seasons and our communal activities. When the Sun enters Virgo, it signals a time to gather the fruits of the harvest, rejoice in nature’s generosity, and share the bounty with the community.
This Virgo New Moon opens a renewed connection to the grounding and supportive magic of the Earth. In this phase of the year, we feel an instinctive desire to clean and organize our space, and to initiate healthier, more efficient ways of living. No other zodiac sign embodies the Body–Mind relationship as powerfully as Virgo. We want to attune to the natural rhythms and intelligence flowing in nature and within our own bodies.
The dynamic Virgo impulse within each of us inspires healing, improvement, detoxification, purification, and beautification of both our inner and outer environments. Can you feel this? Virgo and harvest season remind us that whole fruits, vegetables, plants, herbs, and flowers are nature’s most universal medicines.
I’ve noticed that many of my friends who are yoga teachers, nutritionists, wellness coaches, and healers often have strong Virgo energy in their charts — Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or several planets in Virgo. I myself carry a strong Virgo signature, and I practice astrology with the intention of healing, harmonizing, and optimizing the mind, body, soul, and spirit.
Let’s explore the important planetary influences of this New Moon that energize the entire lunation cycle. The most powerful influence is Uranus, at 1° Gemini, forming a tight 90° square with the Sun and Moon. Uranus — planet of lightning, earthquakes, sudden change, and awakening — can feel wild or chaotic, but its true purpose is transformation.
Its role here is to stimulate new awakenings in our consciousness and expand our urges toward freedom, independence, invention, and innovation, especially regarding health, wellness, and vitality. This can feel both exciting and dynamic.
This New Moon also forms geometric connections with Saturn and Neptune in Aries, and Pluto in Aquarius. In technical terms, this creates a Yod pattern, also called the Finger of Destiny. To be honest, there may be times when this energy feels uncomfortable, because it asks us to make adjustments, optimize our flow, and reorient our path. We’ve reached a moment where conventional thinking no longer works as it used to. It’s time for bolder dreams.
Uranus in Gemini challenges us to receive fresh energy, new ideas, new decisions, new solutions, and new inspirations — all arriving with divine purpose and timing. These influences are designed to awaken and accelerate our mental capacities with intuitive understanding, flashes of deep insight, and clarity. Just yesterday, I felt this when I made a quick decision that normally would have taken much longer.
This New Moon inspires action that may have been percolating inside us for some time. We can now access our higher mind more swiftly and make choices that feel aligned in body and spirit. If you know your birth chart, look to where the first degree of Virgo and Gemini illuminate your life — these are areas ready to bloom. With both Virgo and Gemini being mutable signs, this lunation enhances our ability to pivot, adapt, and move with the flow of change — with faith, trust, and an open heart.
What is the shadow expression of Virgo? Ultimately, Virgo’s raison d’être, opposite Pisces, is to embody the divine in physical form. Perfection is impossible, but when we engage Virgo energy in overdrive, we can strive relentlessly to be perfect through blood, sweat, and tears. The higher path of Virgo is mindfulness — being present and patient in the process of any life activity. Virgo is meditation in action.
Allow the earthy magic of this New Moon to inspire you to create a sacred ritual or ceremony. Plant seeds of intention in fertile Earth, and visualize them sprouting and growing strong over the coming weeks and months.
Virgo also correlates with the principle of service. I’ve come to see that our greatest service is showing up for ourselves with love and grace, and maintaining solid physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual hygiene. Honouring our personal healing journey ripples outward, helping to heal collective and ancestral wounds. Genuine service is showing up in the world with kindness and maintaining a peaceful vibration — ready to help people, animals, and the Earth.
Let’s notice how our service wants to evolve by practicing our craft with more soul, heart, intention, quality, and authenticity. When we aren’t encouraged to work with soul, we can easily lose inspiration — the very fuel that keeps us alive and fulfilled.
